Fans of "The Walking Dead' could be looking forward to the blossoming of a new friendship in the sixh season as actor Ross Marquand recently revealed that his character, Aaron, and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) will bond over their shared goal to protect Alexandria against zombies and other threats.
In the fifth episode, Maggie revealed to Aaron that she is pregnant with her first baby with husband Glenn. It has been extra difficult for Cohan's character to grasp the possibility that Glenn may or may not be alive after running into walker trouble during a mission with Rick and other members.
Opening up about their new-found friendship, Marquand sat down with IBTimes UK and shared his sentiments about his character's budding bond with Maggie.
"This season Aaron will bond with Maggie the most. They are both very keenly aware of the threat that's outside the walls and they're taking a very proactive approach to taking down that threat as much as they can so you'll see a lot of Maggie and Aaron this season," the 34-year-old actor explained.
On the other hand, Aaron's new friendship with Maggie could mean that his strong alliance with Daryl might be put to one side for this season.
"Truthfully where we start off the season, the relationship that they had as recruiters, it takes a back seat as they're faced with the very immediate and persistent threat of non-stop onslaught of not only the walkers but these warring tribes with the Wolves and other groups that are coming down the road too," Marquand added.
The Fort Collins native also explained to fans that, although certain relationships will be strengthened, other bonds will still be explored as season six unfolds.
As the series is set to shed more light on Maggie and Aaron, this could mean that the relationship between Marquand's character and his boyfriend, Eric, will be taking the said back seat for a while.
Meanwhile, the last episode noticeably left out major characters, such as Michonne, Carol and Daryl, as lesser known Alexandrian members took the spotlight.
According to director and special effects supervisor Greg Nicotero, "The Walking Dead' season six will, to some extent, place less emphasis on the key players in order for the stories of other characters to develop.
"We want to expand our world and by giving insight into other characters' backgrounds, it makes it richer," Nicotero explained. "Not every character is successful, people say 'I don't like that, when are you going to kill Father Gabriel or Tara?' But there are stories there for them and you need that balance in the show."
"The Walking Dead' season six airs every Sunday on AMC.
