An armed man barged in at a bus station in southern Israeli district of Negev, and opened fire on bystanders, killing an Israeli soldier, one civilian and wounding 10 others.
He was initially carrying a knife, but snatched a gun from a soldier, shooting him, before charging on the onlookers.
The terrorist, Mohannad Al-Aqaby, 21, a Bedouin-Arab resident of the area, was later shot down by police.
In the gun battle between the assailant and the police at Beersheba bus station, a security force personnel accidentally shot an Eritrean migrant in the lower body, who was then beaten up by mob who thought he was the second terrorist. The asylum seeker, Abtom Zarhom, 29, died of his injuries.
The police said a complaint would be lodged to investigate who participated in beating him.
"It should be noted that the police see this in a very severe light and will not allow people to take the law into their hands, and everyone should act with restraint and carefulness and allow the police to do their job," police spokeswoman Luba Samri was quoted as saying by CNN.
Security forces sealed the area and looked for other possible terrorists involved in the attack. According to media reports, it has not yet determined how he avoided the security checks to get in the terminal. The police did not dismiss the possibility of an accomplice who would have helped him carry on the attack. One of his family members has been arrested on suspicion. The district officials in Negev said they had not received any intelligence of the attack beforehand.
"Inside the station there were several wounded and laid out over an area of about 30 meters, all of them in their late 20s," Gadi Abuhatzeira of Magen David Adom's Negev district told The Jerusalem Post.
Ten shooting victims were taken to the hospital, with one of them showing no signs of life -- two seriously wounded, two moderately wounded, and two were lightly wounded. Four of them were police officers.
The same day, incidences of riots were reported from Mount Hebron in West Bank, where Palestinians threw rocks at Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). Two rioters were injured by low-caliber rifle rounds shot by IDF.
At other places in West Bank, three Palestinians were injured as some 100 rioters clashed with IDF, throwing firebombs and rocks at soldiers, who retaliated with tear-gas canisters.
Thousands of security personnel have been deployed by Israel, following a series of terror attacks by Palestinian assaulters.
Last week, three people died and 20 others were wounded in separate car ramming, stabbing, and shooting incidences.
