Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy appeared during a press conference on Thursday and announced that he is turning over his calling duties for offensive plays to the team's former offensive coordinator Tom Clements, Trib Live reported.

The transition is part of the several changes the team conducted on its coaching staff line-up.

McCarthy has called the plays for the team ever since he was appointed by general manager Ted Thompson as the Packers' head coach in 2006.

Although his coaching abilities has aided the team to claim the number one spot in terms of scoring for the 2014 NFL season with an average of 30.4 points per game, McCarthy felt it's time to turn over the role of play-caller to Clement, who has just been promoted as the team's associate head coach.

McCarthy noted that the major change in the team's offensive strategy will be good for the Packers' overall performance in the upcoming NFL seasons, according to Fox Sports.

"Tom Clements is the play-caller," the head coach told reporters during the conference. "I felt the play-calling was something I could still do. But the commitment you have to make Monday through Saturday, I didn't think it would work as good as I know it will work with Tom taking the responsibilities on offense that I've had in the past."

"It's going to make us better," McCarthy added. "I'm very confident in that."

Replacing Clements as the team's new offensive coordinator is Edgar Bennet, who previously served as the Packers' wide receivers coach, ESPN reported. Alex Van Pelt, on the other hand, will still remain as the quarterbacks coach but will also cover the duties of the wide receivers coach position.

Other line-up changes include former special teams assistant Ron Zook moving up to special teams coordinator. He will be replaced by Jason Simmons as the new special teams assistant. In addition, Mike Solari, the former offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers, has been hired as the assistant of offensive line coach James Campen.
