A Bangladeshi pastor was attacked by three Muslim men pretending to be interested in Christianity.

The assailants came to the pastor's home on a motorbike, and tried to slit his throat, when his wife and neighbors heard his screams and ran to his rescue. The attackers fled after the neighbors arrived at the scene, according to media reports.

Rev. Luke Sarker had met two of the three people several weeks ago, and wanted to share the Gospel with them. They had arranged for another meeting with him, when they attacked him.

The pastor escaped the assassination attempt with only minor injuries.

Police have started investigation into the case, and a member of Islami Chhatra Shibri, a student wing of political party Jamaat-e-Islami, is being questioned in relation to the assault on pastor.

Sarker is pastoring the Faith Bible Church in the district of Pabna in northwestern Bangladesh.

Just about a week before the attack on Sarker, a Japanese man in northern part of the country was murdered by Islamic State. Last month, an Italian aid worker was shot dead in the capital city Dhaka, when he was jogging on a street near diplomatic quarters.
