'Guardians of the Galaxy' actress Zoe Saldana was named the 2015 Theatrical Fundraising Spokesperson for Brave Beginnings, an organization that works to improve the lives of premature babies on Thursday, Aug. 6. As a spokesperson for the organization, Saldana stars in a 30-second preview that plays in more than 4,000 movie theaters nationwide.

Brave Beginnings, formerly known as the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, provides hospitals with grants for purchasing life-saving neonatal equipment and supports critical care pulmonary services.

"I want to talk about a different kind of hero. Instead of capes, they wear blankets. Every superhero needs a sidekick. I'd like you to fill that role by giving generously," says 37-year-old Saldana in the video.

According to Brave Beginnings, premature birth accounts for 35% of all infant deaths in the US. Brave Beginnings has provided essential ventilator equipment to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) across the country since 2006. The program donates an estimate of $500,000 in grants annually and has donated a total of $2.9 million to 78 hospitals in 30 different states.

"As a woman who inspires mothers and young women everywhere, Saldana is committed to giving every preemie baby born in our country an opportunity for a healthy life by working to ensure that every hospital is equipped with the life-saving equipment needed for critical care," said Christopher Aronson, President of Domestic Distribution at 20th Century Fox and Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation President. "She is a dynamic advocate for us, and we are delighted to have her on board."

"In the US, one in eight babies is born prematurely, often without access to the most up to date neonatal care. The correct medical equipment can literally mean the matter of life or death for these precious preemies," states the Brave Beginnings official website.
