Fans are so used to seeing American actor Bradley Cooper light up the big screen with his good looks, charisma, and dramatic chops but the actor is shying away from the limelight this time to go behind the camera to direct the romantic drama, A Star is Born.
Cooper is currently in talks with Warner Bros to direct the third remake of the film, which is based on William Wellman's 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. It revolves around a has-been movie star who helps promote the career of a young aspiring actress while his own career takes a nosedive.
Variety reports that Cooper will be producing the movie through his 22 Green banner along with Jon Peters, Billy Gerber, and Basil Iwanyk. It will be Cooper's directorial debut.
The directing duties was originally given to Clint Eastwood back in 2011, who worked with Cooper on the film American Sniper which is based on the life of America's most lethal sniper, Chris Kyle. At the same time, singer and actress Beyonce Knowles was set to star in A Star is Born.
However, Eastwood gave up the film to direct Jersey Boys while Beyonce begged off on her role because she became pregnant.
Now that Cooper will be directing, it is still uncertain whether Beyonce will still be eager to take on the role, or if the actor himself will be acting in the film. Other names that have been attached to the leading man role include Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christian Bale.
Cooper is expected to revise the latest script written by Will Fetters. His remake will follow the 1976 version by George Cukor which starred Judy Garland and James Mason. Earlier in 1954, the movie by Frank Pierson starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.
The actor's career is really shooting off. After gaining success in American Sniper, he will star alongside The Amazing Spider-Man actress Emma Stone in Cameron Crowe's romantic comedy, Aloha. He also has another movie with The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence, called Serena.
While his career is on the upswing, Cooper's personal life seems to be in a bit of a mess especially after recently splitting up with British girlfriend Suki Waterhouse.
It was reported that Suki, who is 17 years younger than Cooper ,wanted more of a commitment from him but he was unable to provide it. He allegedly came close to proposing to his girlfriend several times but never did it.
